Weldable rail fixing clips

Weldable rail fixing clips are the preferred choice where you need maximum strength and high load capacity in a compact design. Because the clip is welded to the steel surface supporting the rail, installation and service work can be carried out from above the runway beam, which simplifies access during construction and also when a crane is in operation or under maintenance.

KranEl supplies Gantrail welded rail clips for a wide range of rail sizes, including profiles that are no longer routinely manufactured but may still be found in older installations. As a general rule, clip size is proportionate to the rail it secures (larger rail = larger clip). Gantrail performs extensive in-house performance testing, with third-party witnessing, to verify reliable performance and long service life. Welded clips provide the strongest installation and are typically selected for heavy-duty industries and demanding duty cycles.

How to specify a clip:

  1. Find or estimate the horizontal force (sideload) to be carried by the clip. It is assumed that all the load from one wheel will occur at one clip. To estimate the load, it may be assumed to be 15% of the vertical wheel load.
  2. Choose the style of clip you require – bolted or welded.
  3. Find the dimensions of the foot of the rail to be used. See Crane Rails.
  4. Check that the selected clip will fit the installation. Confirming rail dimensions, minimum support width etc.
  5. If you’re working with non-standard rail sections or want to validate assumptions, we can support the selection together with Gantrail

If you can’t find the exact clip type you need, or want to discuss loads, rail section and installation constraints, contact us and we’ll help you specify the right Gantrail rail fixing clip for your project.

There are two different series of welded rail clips

  • Series 1: State-of-the-art weldable, rubber-nosed rail clips for light, medium and heavy duty crane rail systems where performance is key, designed as a "fit and forget” (low-maintenance) solution. Installation can be done without access below the rail support. Replacing the 9-series.
  • Series 2: Weldable, rubber-nosed clips for medium to heavy duty applications, using a standard hexagon head fastener and built for low maintenance (“fit and forget”). No access below the rail support is required. Replacing the 8-series.
