Bolted rail fixing clips

Bolted rail fixing clips are a proven, widely used solution where you want a simple and economical installation without the skills and qualifications required for welding. KranEl supplies Gantrail bolted rail clips that are easy to fit and provide reliable resistance to the forces transferred from the rail—typically using grade 8.8 bolts for most standard applications.

Gantrail’s bolted clips are well suited for light to medium duty installations and the low-profile design can be an advantage where guide rollers or space constraints must be considered. Depending on project requirements, clips can be used with 8.8 or 10.9 grade bolts, and certain designs can also be supplied with pre-installed weld studs fixed to the steel rail support surface (e.g., soleplate or beam). Gantrail generally recommends 8.8 bolts as the most cost-effective choice, while upgrading to 10.9 can be used in specific cases to increase horizontal load capacity when a larger clip size is not possible.

We can support a wide range of rail sizes, including some older profiles that are no longer routinely manufactured. As a general rule, clip size is proportionate to the rail it secures (larger rail = larger clip). Gantrail also performs extensive in-house performance testing, with third-party witnessing, to ensure consistent performance and long service life.

How to specify a clip:

  1. Find or estimate the horizontal force (sideload) to be carried by the clip. It is assumed that all the load from one wheel will occur at one clip. To estimate the load, it may be assumed to be 15% of the vertical wheel load.
  2. Choose the style of clip you require – bolted or welded.
  3. Find the dimensions of the foot of the rail to be used. See Crane Rails.
  4. Check that the selected clip will fit the installation. Confirming rail dimensions, minimum support width etc.
  5. If you’re working with non-standard rail sections or want to validate assumptions, we can support the selection together with Gantrail

If you can’t find the clip you need, or want to discuss loads, rail type and installation constraints, contact us and we’ll help you specify the right Gantrail bolted rail fixing clip for your project.
