Rail pad

Rail pads (Gantrail resilient crane rail pads) are installed between the crane rail and its support to create a “soft mounted” rail that can move and rotate slightly. This promotes a more even load transfer between the crane wheel and rail, and between the rail and the supporting structure, helping to reduce stress peaks, lower noise and vibration, and decrease the risk of fatigue damage in runway beams or construction.

By compensating for minor unevenness in the rail or steel support, the pad spreads wheel loads over a larger contact area. It also removes direct metal-to-metal contact, significantly reducing wear, fretting corrosion between the rail and its support, especially valuable for outdoor installations or environments with moisture, oil or grease.

We supply rail pads for most crane and railway rail profiles, for both continuous rail support and discontinuous mounting. Pads are typically supplied slightly under the rail foot width so rail clips can clamp tightly to the rail foot. The rail pads are available both with and without steel reinforcement.

Gantrail continuous crane rail pads are designed for installations which require continuous structural rail support.

  • Perfect for continuous support
  • Steel reinforced resilient pad
  • Suited for heavy duty use
  • New fluted surfaces

Gantrail discontinuous crane rail pads are designed for installations where rails are mounted on individual soleplates.

  • Significantly reduces stresses
  • Suited to individual soleplates
  • Increases rail system lifespans
  • Eliminates fretting corrosion
